Gimme a Break

My youngest child's 3rd Quarter exam is scheduled next week and as usual, I'm the one who gets stressed. I dunno why I am such a worrywart but I cannot help it. As of today, Thursday, I am gathering all her quizzes, long tests and seatworks for this quarter to be used as her reviewer. But I wish I am like other moms who just chill and worry about nothing and let the fate decide - but I'm not!

 

 

I have every reason to be worried, too, because my 2nd child is different from her older sister. But I hope and pray that she will get good grades despite all the pressures she's going thru. How about you other moms out there? How do you study with your kids? Was it relaxing or stressful?

I cannot wait for her exams  to be over so that she can have fun during Christmas break --- so am I! After next week, both my eldest and youngest will have a 2-week Christmas vacation from school and that's a lot of fun for me, too!

My Little Girl Did It!

So happy that my little girl finally graduated from Preschool (Kinder) last March 23, 2017. She even made us more proud when she graduated with honors, she got a Gold medal (equivalent to First honor). I didn't expect much from her but she did it! Congrats my love and thank you! 

When The Teacher Gave My Child The Wrong Grade

I had a not so good weekend lately and I hope these series of unfortunate events ended already. I guess I'm going to discuss first what transpired last Friday (and I might talk about what had happened on succeeding days in another blog entry).

I attended my daughter's 2nd Quarter PTC (Parent-Teacher Conference) last Friday afternoon. "Brace yourself" was what I told myself because my consistent-honor-student daughter made a huge mess on her grades last quarter. I guess she was enjoying too much of her freedom in high school that she forgot her major responsibility - STUDY! The 1st quarter result didn't sit well with me so her privileges were removed from her -- Facebook deactivated, from iPhone to analogue Cherry mobile, no hanging out with friends on weekend and wake up early in the morning (and I'm talking 4:30 am!) so she could review her lessons. Yeah, I'm such a pain in the ass momma when I got totally mad!

Then came the 2nd PTC and I had the chance to review my daughter's record last quarter to one of the teachers. She was on leave the previous PTC and haven't got the chance to talk to her, only the substitute teacher. And came the great SHOCK! There was a big mistake in my daughter's grade. Turns out she got higher (though not that high) grade and was still IN at the honor roll. What the----!

The teacher apologized for the huge blunder and told me they would correct the mistake. The grade relayed to the substitute was not my daughter's final grade after all. And I was shock and disappointed and sad for my daughter at the same time coz they didn't know all the stress, the pains, the hassles we went thru. Awarding of honors for 1st Quarter was already done and that won't happen again. And what will they do now? All they told me was they will correct her grade and give her the certificate of honor coz she deserved it...Well, thank you for that...

However, thinking over and over about it made me realize that it was not enough. I punished my kid anytime for her wrongdoing but I am also ready to defend her should someone make a huge mess on her. This time, my daughter deserves my sympathy. My inner tigress was unleashed again that I could not wait for today to come.

So this morning, I went to my child's school not to see her teacher but the school head. I saw and talked to the school's Vice-Principal and pour everything out. I didn't totally blame the teacher for the wrong grade because she was on leave. In fact, I should be thankful to her for correcting it. I could not also blame the adviser coz he was just there writing the grade given to him, I could not also blame the substitute coz she doesn't really know what the real grade was (uh-uh...hmmm). But who was there to blame, ME? Funny. Of course it was still their fault in whatever perspective you're going to see it...sigh.

I also complained about another teacher who was so unfair in grading his students. Cause when I asked him about how my child got that grade the mere fact I saw her tried to improve her grades this quarter, he could not give me a logical answer.

I don't usually go to my daughter's school these days because I'm trying to avoid to be called "Sip-sip". I am not that type of parent who goes there to influence the teachers so that they will give my child favorable grades. However, with all these hullabaloos, I guess I'm going to be visible to let the teachers know I'm watching them. Not to scare them but just keeping my eyes on them.

Tiger-mom is now wide awake and I even told the school head that I will come back to check and to hear the progress of my report. I hope and pray they will not disappoint. They promised to correct my daughter's grade and will even announce that she's part of the honor roll last quarter to boost her ego again. They promised that they would talk to the teachers responsible and informed all of them not to commit the same mistakes. They promised that they would check on their teacher's way of grading system. And they told me to come back anytime should I have another concern.

With all that had happened, I pray that something good will come out from this. I don't want to hurt anyone but they should know and understand that it was us who was hurt the most :-(

Corpus Christi 91 Photoshoot

Last July 1, 2016, Corpus Christi High School Batch 91 had their 25th Silver Jubilee Homecoming. They had a Coachella-themed party which I will be posting soon. On July 2, 2016, there was a photoshoot for the alumni in their Alma Mater together with their former Principal, Dr. Alfonso del Fierro. Shown below is a picture of batch 91 but they were not complete as some could not really make it. Some lived outside the country and some already had previous appointment scheduled on this day and it was impossible to cancel it.

The photoshoot was fun even though it rained so hard. Despite the absence of others, there were still pictures of them being held by some classmates. After the photoshoot, the alumni went to Apple Tree for lunch and to spend more time together.

Our reunion will finally take place next week - July 1, 2016 and I am looking forward to see my classmates once again! We will be celebrating our Silver Jubilee Homecoming and everyone seem pretty much excited about it. We were the first graduates of our school and we were so proud of it!

It's just hard to believe that 25 years had passed already.

Anyway, I made this short video dedicated to our batch. Hope to post a longer version soon. And in case you haven't read my previous post or in case you might wonder why there were only few students you see in this video, it's because there were ONLY 24 of us graduates.

The school has grown bigger now, many students are enrolled there and I'm happy for it. I will always be proud of being a Corpus Christi product ;-)

Corpus Christi Batch '91 Celebrate its 25th Year!

I am one of the pioneering batch of Corpus Christi School Class of 1991. This year, we decided to hold our 25th year Silver Jubilee reunion on July 1-3, 2016.

We are currently busy with what to do on our get-together. We created a committee who will take charge of a specific task. So far, I've been assigned to make a video for our class, make invitation for our former teachers and make some reservations at the venues we plan to hold our get-together. Tarpaulin and tokens for everybody were also assigned to me. And I'm not even a superwoman!

But I had fun doing these because I know I can. As long as I know what I am doing and familiar with the tasks assigned to me, I have no problem doing it ;-)

Just to give you bit of an info, since we were the pioneering class, there were only 24 graduates in our batch. Yes, senior batch of 1991 had only 24 graduates! And that's something we (the 1st grads) are really proud of!

What's exciting about our reunion is that our classmates who are now residing outside the city will come home just for this event. And we are so excited to see each other once again...

Back To School Again!

I can't believe my kids' summer vacation is almost over. A week from now, they will be back in their regular classes. I will be missing the noise and arguments with my kids especially with my eldest, hehe. But I guess I'll make use of the time when they are at school. Well, I dunno...

Anyway, here's a photo of my youngest daughter doing her jump-shot during our summer outing with the family. I so love this photo so I'm sharing it with you here. This will remind me the beauty of summer in 2015 ;-)

Chloe Won Again!

My daughter Chloe did it again! She won 1st place in their Computer MS Drawing contest for Grade 4 level. She also won 1st place last year. Computer paint is one of her hobbies. She also likes sketching on her notepads. According to her teacher, not all kids who are good in sketching are also good in computer. In fact, computer painting is quite a challenge because it's not that easy to manipulate the mouse.

Anyways, sharing to you my daughter's winning piece. The theme was about technology so they were made to draw gadgets that are currently being used :)

Silver Medal For Math Quiz Bee

Would like to congratulate my eldest daughter, Chloe, for placing 2nd in their Math Quiz Bee held this afternoon at their school. She got Silver Medal for this contest.

I usually attend my child's competition at school but today I wasn't able to because I have prior commitment. Good thing that Chloe understood. But by God's grace she won and I was so proud of what she has achieved. Thank You Lord for the blessing, thank You Lord for guiding Chloe and for being there for her always.

And to my dear daughter Chloe, Thank you for everything. Always know that I am sooo proud of you. Continue to study hard and pray always to God. I love you anak!

Foundation Day 2013

These are my daughter's friends since preschool days. They are now in their 4th grade but they used to be classmates when they were in preschool in another school. Right now, they are just schoolmates but they still often see each other especially if there's a school activity. This picture was taken last September where their school celebrated their Foundation Day. Their grade level presented Salsa dance which originated in Brazil. 

Looking at this picture, I just can't believe these babies are now grown ups! That's why I wanna savor this moment and tried my best to be there for my kid because time just flies so fast that I'm having a hard time keeping up!

Gold For Creativity!

My daughter Chloe, who is currently in Grade 3, got these 2 gold medals today. She won 1st place in Computer Paint where she draw an Aquarium with different kinds of fishes. I wish I have a copy so that I can also see her winning piece. The other medal was won by her group (there were 4 of them) for T-shirt Design Contest for their Math Subject. You can see the shirt on the 1st picture posted above and Chloe even modeled it after they were finish painting the shirt. Luckily for their group, they were declared champion.

They celebrated Information Technology Week last week so Quiz Bee for Math and Science were also conducted. But winners for T-shirt Design and Computer Painting were only announced today. I really wish I have a copy of Chloe's computer paint but I have yet to ask from her teacher. She loves to draw and paint so much that I'm glad her God-given talent was noticed.

So, to my dear daughter Chloe, congratulations and I will always support you!

My Gold Medalist

I've attended my daughter's recognition day this afternoon, March 28, 2012. I'm proud to say that Chloe is again a gold medalist for this school year. Comes June, she will be in grade 3 and I pray that she will still do well with her studies.

Sing Away

My daughter, Chloe, was invited by her former school to sing during their closing ceremony yesterday and today at Grand Caprice. Chloe who loves to perform onstage was very excited not only to see her former teachers but to be in the limelight again, hehe. For an 8-year-old, she has confidence and I'm glad for that. She may have inherited her love for singing from me but I was never confident to perform in front of many people. I was always nervous and had butterflies in my stomach.

I hope Chloe will continue to develop her love for singing. And I will always support her. As a mom, I am proud and happy to see what my little girl has achieved.

My Daughter's Teacher

My daughter, Chloe, was invited by her former teacher to sing during her birthday celebration earlier this month. Chloe sang Lea Salonga's version of On My Own from the play, Les Misérables.

Teacher Marissa was Chloe's Kindergarten 2 teacher. She's also the owner and directress of Lifetime Study Center, where my daughter had attended her preschool years. If I were to describe Teacher Mari, well... she's tough and quite strict but she's also an excellent teacher and is well-loved by her students. She's described by many as perfectionist, especially when it comes to diction and penmanship, which is just fine for us parents since all of her graduates had turned out to be very good speakers and readers in grade school (most of them even turned out as medalists). ;-)

Teacher Marissa (or Khessa to some) celebrated her day with her family, a few friends and her school staff. My daughter said she couldn't be more happier and excited to see Teacher Marissa again since she really missed her a lot. She even asked me to buy a bouquet of flowers as a birthday gift for her former teacher.

I will always be grateful to Teacher Marissa for the excellent education she had instilled not only to my daughter but to all of her students. She had helped my child attain the best nursery and kindergarten education and had also helped in honing Chloe's skills and develop her talents, especially at singing, sketching and her love for reading. In short, thank you, Teacher Mari, for bringing out the best in her ;-)

Busy Week

I'm counting the days when I will have to rest. Tomorrow, I will accompany Chloe to her dress rehearsal for ballet. I thought it's going to be in the morning but just got informed now that she will have to go at 1pm. At 4 p.m. tomorrow, she should be at school. Their Christmas program will start at 5 p.m. My mom promised me to take care of Zoe and I hope they will both be alright. I'm sure we'll go home quite late in the evening.

On Sunday, almost all members of the family plan to watch Chloe's ballet presentation. This time, I have to bring the baby with me and I hope she will not be cranky inside the hall. The Nutcracker Ballet will start at 2:30 pm and I hope they will be on time so that we can go home early :-)

On Monday morning, Chloe will have her Christmas party at school so I have to accompany her again. I'll be helping her to bring gifts not only for her classmate but for her teachers and friends as well. She is to bring food to share with her classmates also. I think most of them were told to bring.

After I'm done taking care of Chloe, I'll have to make a schedule in going to the mall to buy gifts for the family, most especially for the kids. I have several godchildren and probably some of them expect a gift from me, hehehe. I want them to be happy also so I've to list them all so that I will not forget anyone =)

Christmas is really busy, huh? And malls are getting richer, hehe. Well, nobody actually obliged gift-giving but sometimes, it's fun to do it especially on Christmas day ;-)

Pursue Your Dreams

I am a stay at home mom and sometimes, it made me think to enroll Computers and Technology online. Since I use the computer a lot, and tried to make a living as well, I thought about Accredited online colleges and how it will help me pursue my dreams. I'm sure they have a lot to offer and I'm actually quite excited about it. If you are interested in getting a degree online, try to check for schools online that offer the course you intend to take.

Not Done Yet

It's still early morning on my side and here I am now blogging :-). I was quite busy with my eldest daughter, Chloe, lately. She had her 3rd quarter exams and I need to review with her to make sure she studied the correct pointers and to check if she understood it. To my surprised, she was able to inculcate her in mind her lessons very well. She even memorized some lines of the books. I told her make sure she understands and I tried to let her explain in her own words. Still, she knew it well and even asked me questions and further explanations that I cannot anymore answer =)

Her exams ended Wednesday but turned out that I would still busy for her upcoming activities. She had practices for her school program and a ballet practice for their presentation this coming Sunday. I drove her to and fro school..And they have Christmas parties! So yesterday, I went to the mall to buy gifts for her to give... and I was not even done yet!

I'm planning to go out this afternoon that's why at this early, I'm making some posts in my blog. How about your end? Perhaps you are also busy helping your kids with their Christmas activities? ;-)

Chloe's First Bronze Medal :-)

My daughter Chloe joined the Elocution Contest held last Friday at their school. She was one of the 6 finalists. In such a short notice, I helped her practice her piece. It was her first time to join, and I was quite desperate, hoping for someone to help me on how she will deliver it.

Well, glad that Chloe was not a shy-type person like me. She was determined and eager to learn, however, there were instances that she got tired and would not listen to me anymore. The best way I could do was to understand.

Finally, on the big day, she presented it in front of the 3 judges and some of the audience who watched the contest. Chloe placed 3rd and got a bronze medal.. so, yey!! I was very happy that for a first-timer, she was able to compete and somehow impressed the judge. Below is a video of Chloe reciting her piece. Hope you like it ;-)

Elocution Contest

My daughter's going to join Elocution contest this coming Friday. She was one of the selected few students to represent her class. I was hoping to find a coach for her but to no avail. I decided to be the one to teach her. During their elimination round, it was only me who taught her. And I guess for their final round, I would end up coaching her again and I hope I'm able to help her get it right.

Elocution is their school's forte but it's my daughter's first time to join the said contest. She will be judged according to the following:

1. Mastery and Clarity
2. Voice and Pronunciation
3. Proper Gesture and Expression

I don't have problems with numbers 1 and 2 but Chloe needs to improve her gestures and expressions coz I'm also doubtful if I taught her the right way. I was hoping to find that piece online or hear somebody reciting it at YouTube but I was unsuccessful. So, for now, Chloe will just have to rely solely on me. But I told her to just give her best and enjoy the contest. Whatever is the result, I'll always be proud of her...

2-Week's Over

My daughter's 2-week semestral break is over and starting tomorrow, everything is back to basic. I've to wake up around 5 or 5:30 in the morning to prepare breakfast, assist Chloe in taking a bath to fasten up everything and so on and so forth.

Lately I've been waking up around 7 am but this morning, I woke up around 8:30 coz I slept late last night because of Zoe. She was very cranky and only to find out that she wanted to poop and it happened twice. I never slept until Zoe was off to dreamland. That's always been the case. I can't sleep when they are still awake, afraid that something might happen to them and I may not know it.

I may be planning to sleep early tonight but if that won't happen, at least I have my alarm clock to help me wake up :-)
