A Song For My Sick Grandma

Quite a late post but I guess I did this on purpose :-) I'm not used of sharing my video in public but I will make an exemption on this one. In my old post, I've mentioned that our family was doing a fundraising for my sick grandmother that we came up with a dinner concert. So, last October 4, 2014, the second concert took place in our city where my brother, husband, daughter and myself participated. My sister in-law was in charge of pictures and videos (including this video I posted).

So here you can see and hear me sing Celine Dion's version of A Mother's Prayer. I did the opening song and the rest of the family members played the piano, guitar, did a solo number or duet. The concert was a success and we were truly grateful for those who came, for those who donated and supported the cause even though some were not around. Thank You Lord and may God bless us all!

Globe Telecom mulls expanding operations in Asean region

Globe Telecom President and CEO Ernest Cu said the Philippine telecommunications provider is exploring the possibility of expanding its operations within the ASEAN region to complement relatively strong economic growth within the region.

“We will look for white space within Asean and Asia on where to leverage the skills we’ve developed overtime and we do think we’ve developed a decent telco business here in the Philippines. We have a great team and we’re thinking of ways to leverage that further in emerging economies,” Cu said in a video shown at the recent APEC CEO Summit in Beijing, China. The APEC CEO Summit is a premier business event, attended by thousands of economic and business leaders from around the region.

Cu specifically cited Myanmar as a potential expansion area. “There’s already a telco player in Myanmar but there are other areas we could get involved in, like financial services and mobile advertising and these areas have potential,” he said.

As a telco provider, Globe has taken the direction of providing products and services most relevant to customers amid fast-paced evolution of digital technologies. “We’ve always taken the position that if consumer habits are changing, then we have to change along with it and deliver what’s relevant to them. The real prize would be getting all of these individuals to access the internet through their mobile phones and alternatives offered by different mobile apps become more commonplace and become the main mode of communication,” said Cu.

Cu earlier said Globe is considering the possibility of offering its mobile-based banking service to other Southeast Asian markets once the ASEAN integration is in place. Globe operates GCash, the mobile money service of its subsidiary G-Xchange Inc. It also operates BanKO, a mobile-based, microfinance-focused savings bank, along with Bank of the Philippine Islands and Ayala Corp.

By 2015, the ASEAN Economic Community sets in motion the creation of single market and production base for the 10-nation bloc fostering free flow of goods, services, skilled labor, investments and capital. ASEAN groups Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. Cu’s vision of expanding Globe Telecom’s operations in the Asean region mirrors goals expressed by other CEOs surveyed by PwC International Survey Unit. The APEC CEO Survey was conducted between June and August 2014 covering 635 CEOs and industry leaders across 39 countries with operations in APEC economies.

Based on the survey, 57% of the CEO respondents said they are either building or expanding facilities in APEC economies in the next 3 to 5 years. The survey found that 67% of executives plan to increase investment in the APEC region over the next 12 months. Their plans are spread over each of the 21 APEC member economies with China, the US, Indonesia, Hong Kong-China and Singapore as the most popular destinations for investment.

The Philippines will be hosting the APEC Summit next year. An intergovernmental grouping currently composed of 21 member economies, APEC focuses on three key areas namely trade and investment liberalization, business facilitation and economic and technical cooperation.

Renowned designer Tim Kobe arrives in the PH to visit Globe GEN3 stores

Iconic Apple store designer teams up with Globe Telecom to revolutionize telco retail Multi-awarded designer Tim Kobe—lauded for transforming the retail landscape through his work on the iconic Apple Store in New York City—has arrived in the Philippines to visit the revolutionary “Generation 3” stores that he especially redesigned for leading telecommunications company Globe Telecom. Globe tapped Tim Kobe in remodeling its stores to set the standard for store design and telecoms retail experience in the Philippines and in the world.

Tim Kobe is the CEO and founder of Eight Inc., a strategic design firm with offices in San Francisco, New York, Honolulu, Tokyo, London, Singapore, and Beijing. The "8 design human experience”—which hints at the Generation 3 store promise—states that "we design meaningful experiences. Experiences with emotion and purpose that change the way people think, feel, and do."

A graduate of Environmental Design from Art Center College of Design, Kobe began his career working as a designer for The Burdick Group, a design firm based in in San Francisco California, In 1987, Kobe became a founding partner in West Office Design Associates, focusing on museum and exhibition design for several science museum exhibitions in the US and Hong Kong.

Years later, Kobe founded the globally recognized strategic design firm Eight Inc. At Eight Inc., Kobe worked with numerous brands in the retail and commercial space including Apple, Virgin Atlantic Airways, Nike, Coke, Knoll and Citibank, among others.

Beyond his duties at Eight Inc., Kobe is also trustee at Art Center College of Design and currently serving as Chairman of the Academic Affairs Committee. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Grabhorn Institute in San Francisco California.

Together with Kobe, Globe is set to revolutionize customer experience through a highly engaging retail concept that reimagines the digital lifestyles of Filipinos. The new stores will feature interactive lifestyle vignettes that will showcase numerous products within interesting displays that are relevant to customers. The installations are flexible and reconfigurable enabling the store to transform, keeping the environment always fresh and giving customers a reason to return.

As Globe Telecom makes way for Kobe’s retail concept, it has closed down two of its biggest stores in SM North Edsa and Limketkai Mall in Cagayan de Oro. The two stores will reopen in December 2014 promising a groundbreaking experience for its customers.

Prior to opening, the stores will feature themed surprises – Arts, Community, and Technology. Globe has commissioned a number of local artists to turn these stores into live art galleries that showcase murals exhibiting the vision Globe Telecom and Kobe’s Eight Inc. have for its upcoming Generation 3 stores.

For weeks now, local artists have treated Globe customers and retail onlookers to live art performances at their stores in SM North EDSA in Manila and Limketkai Mall in Cagayan De Oro. Art enthusiasts and followers on social media have been keeping tabs through #Gen3nextACT on Twitter and photos uploaded on Facebook since the art event began last September 25.

Monster Kitchen

CDOBloggers and other members from the media were privileged enough to be invited by Monster Kitchen last September 3, 2014. Almost all of their top chefs were present and gave us brief background about their 'specialty' and their achievements. Chef Mon Cardenas demonstrated to us his bestselling French macaroons. We also found out that Monster Kitchen was the overall Champion during the Kumbira competition held last August 2014. With what they shared, I instantly became interested to enroll or get a short course from them. I am not a cook but I believe I can be when they will be the ones to help me in this field. All of the chefs have something good to offer and I hope one of these days I will learn thru them. The chefs later served us dinner and it was super delish! The more I aspire to become a cook because the food served were incredibly yummy! See pics below!

Want to Own a 7 String Guitar?

I love listening and watching people who knows how to play musical instruments. My late dad and two older brothers are good in playing the guitar while I am just average. I don't even consider myself that good because I am not so good in hearing, I am so dependent reading the chords. Anyways, I know a lot of you out there are professional guitar players and I guess having an ibanez 7 string would be more fun. I am only familiar with a 6-string guitar but I guess this one is much more exciting. If interested, you can order this online and will be shipped for free. What's more exciting is that Black Friday sale starts now so better check it from time to time because it will be offered for a very low price. Don't miss it!
